The prime mover in this very successful initiative is Graeme Donald. Graeme brings a wealth of experience, as a retired senior education officer, Chair of the CVE Scotland Chaplaincy Support Project, and Convener of the Church of Scotland's Education Committee. This exciting initiative has been made possible by Melrose and Peebles Presbytery which funded the resources. School budgets have been severely reduced in recent years, and this generous support was perhaps the only way of ensuring that teachers and pupils receive these valuable resources.
Initial reaction to the resources has been very positive: "All teachers were very interested in the series - especially for senior school (S5 and S6) but also for some S4 pupils studying for certificated RMPS," Graeme explains. "Teachers commented too on the need for something similar for P7-S3." Some of the schools already plan to use the materials with groups of up to 50 students.
There is a real opportunity here for churches to support schools and really help young people to challenge the myths that "science and religion don't mix." And the Borders are paving the way: "We are now approaching local churches to see if they could help fund additional copies that local schools need," comments Graeme.
