How to…organise a residential experience

Several Christian organisations run Outdoor Learning Centres, which are widely used by schools as key parts of their annual curriculum. Residential and day activities include Environmental Education, P7-S1 Transition, Leadership courses, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, etc:

Scripture Union Scotland has two Centres (one near Kinross and one near Aviemore). Both centres offer educational packages linked closely to Curriculum for Excellence:

Abernethy have four Adventure Centres in Scotland (by Loch Tay, near Aviemore, near Fort William and near Castle Douglas). Their main focus is on educational adventure activity residentials for school groups of all ages, including P7/S1 transition and DofE options.

Compass Christian Centre, Glenshee The Compass Christian Centre caters regularly for schools groups offering P7-S1 transition, S1 Induction etc. Also well used by pupils for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Like all the Christian Centres listed here, part of the residential experience is a short interactive session in line with the Christianity Experiences and Outcomes. See our Case Studies for a write-up of a P7 programme at Compass Christian Centre.

Teen Ranch, near Dundee  caters for schools groups offering P7-S1 transition, S1 Induction etc. They also have a well-developed one-day Team-Building and Leadership Development programme for S1-3 pupils.
